We are launching a training
project at Kaithady school, Jaffna, where there are 200 deaf children.
The teachers at Kaithady have been very isolated because of the civil
war and of the 26 teachers there only 6 have any teacher training at
all. The others have no higher education qualifications other than A
level. Two TIDE volunteers will be going to Kaithady this August to
delivering an intensive 2-week basic training course. We envisage a 3
stage training project at Kaithady: Stage one - intensive basic
training. Stage two - lesson observation and the development of a
Teachers' Manual in Tamil. Stage three - advanced training to a select
group of teachers to enable them to train others. |
